The Women's Build Project has been revised for 2020

WMU of Texas family, it is with mixed feelings that I must announce the revision of our annual Women’s Build in the Penitas area of our South Texas border communities.

We all know that 2020 has been full of challenges and these challenges have caused us and our partners to re-evaluate how we do missions in the midst of a pandemic.  After staying in communication with our build partner, Buckner International, I learned today that due to our build community being a hot spot for the pandemic, and all of the uncertainty and necessary restrictions for a construction site that come with that fact, they cannot allow in-person mission trips this Fall.  I do understand - it truly is about safety for the families we are supporting, but also for you and your communities once you return home.

In light of this update, I am excited to say that WMU of Texas is working with Buckner to develop ways we can still connect with the family who will use their networks to build their own home.  The home will still be built! Just not by our WMU of Texas family this year, but by the family who shall inhabit the home.

The Mary Hill Davis Offering® will still pay for the construction materials, plumbing, roofing and electrical teams, and the family will build out their home.  We will get to witness their process and possibly interact with the family virtually. So, in essence, we are developing a virtual missions experience.  Stay tuned for more information on how you can be a part of the process.

We also know that this would have been our 10th year of providing teams of women to physically build the home.  I’m not sure how a virtual celebration looks, but I am committed to working with our Buckner representatives to ensure the stories of the blessed family building their home are documented and shared for you all.

For those who have mailed in your deposits, our office will be in touch with you personally about providing a refund to you.

In my conversation with our friends at Buckner, one theme was evident - none of this has caught God by surprise.  While we are sad to not be able to make that trek down to the Valley this October, we look forward to the day when we return, and oh, what a reunion and celebration that shall be!

May God Bless You,

Tamiko
