Stateside Missionary Housing

Missionary Housing Requests

National WMU maintains a database of housing available for Southern Baptist missionaries in the United States on stateside assignments.

Most housing is sponsored by Southern Baptist Convention churches or associations for missionaries appointed through the International Mission Board (IMB).

  • Missionaries are to make arrangements directly with the sponsoring body.
  • Passwords are provided to missionaries with long-term commitments. If you have forgotten the password or need assistance, please contact housing[at]wmu.org and include your name, sending agency, status, and your missionary number if IMB.

Important note to missionaries: all houses are “no pets” unless otherwise indicated.

Email housing[at]wmu.org for more information.

Mary's House

a WMU of Texas Home for Stateside Missionaries

At the corner of Stanley and West Broadus on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) sits Mary's House, a newly renovated duplex home by WMU of Texas for stateside missionaries.

What to others was just an empty building, a man with vision saw the potential of a home. The late Dr. Brent Ray, director of the World Mission Center (WMC) and former missionary, casts the vision for the transformation of an empty duplex into a home for two stateside missionary families.

Let us take you on a tour through his eyes.

The duplex, named after WMU of Texas President Mary Hill Davis, invites us into a cozy living space with beautiful, original hardwood floors hidden beneath much-worn carpet. The kitchen now empty, longs for the sounds and aromas of the family meal being prepared while the children play. Large bedrooms are eager to provide a place to relax and refresh.

Dr. Ray dreamed of a playscape in the expansive sideyard. He saw a home where missionary families could open their doors to seminary students and share the stories of life on the mission field. He imagined small group Bible study gatherings and playdates for children.

Dr. Ray’s vision provided an opportunity for WMU of Texas and the WMC to encourage support, and care for those who go and share the gospel of Christ to the nations.

In 2021, plans for the renovation were completed by the Texas Baptists Architecture Team, and WMU of Texas provided the funding for the work to begin. In 2022, WMU of Texas completed the renovation, and the first missionary families moved in January 2023.

Note: Mary's House provides temporary housing for IMB and NAMB missionaries through the Missionary-in-Residence program at Southwestern Seminary. Contact WMU of Texas at (214) 828-5150 or wmutx[at]texasbaptists.org with any questions.
