My Word for 2024 is Anticipation

As we enter a new year, I want to share with you my love of words. As an educator, I love vocabulary and the meaning of words. Studying scripture, watching for patterns and phrases, word choice, and meaning, we are offered a deeper understanding of the voice of God.

Let’s pause as we consider Genesis 1 where God SPOKE the creation of all things. It was His spoken Word that started all things into motion. All creation came into being with God’s voice. The power and authority of His words run throughout scripture. Throughout this year, we will look at some words and how impactful they are for missional living.

My word for 2024 is ANTICIPATION.

I want to enter this year with an attitude of anticipation about what God has in store for me personally, for WMU of Texas, and for both the believers and seekers across our state, nation, and world. Anticipation is deeply rooted in scripture.

  • Noah built the ark in anticipation of the forewarned flood when he could not see it.

  • Joshua sent an army in anticipation of entering the promised land after 40 years of believing and waiting.

  • The prophets of the Old Testament anticipated the coming of the Messiah who John described as the WORD that was with God from the beginning of all creation. “In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God.” John 1:1.

What are you anticipating this year? What are you getting ready for perhaps not knowing all the intricate pieces that need to come together? Anticipation is the readiness and willingness to take bold acts of faith when God speaks to us. I am willing to hear God’s direction in 2024. Are you?
