Border Ministry Donations & Mission Trips

Along the Texas-Mexico border, families require various essential supplies. These include food, sports equipment, medical supplies, baby items, Christmas gifts, bedding, apparel, hygiene kits, and more (see the complete list below).

Praying Pinatas

Supplies

  • Medium/Large-Size Piñata
  • 1 Bag of Candy
  • 30 Strips of Paper with Missionary Names/Locations
  • 1 Large Stick
  • 1 Blindfold

Instructions

  • Stuff piñata with candy and paper strips. Secure piñata opening.
  • Blindfold the student and take turns with the stick, trying to break the piñata.
  • Once the piñata breaks, let the chaos ensue!
  • As the students find the missionary names/locations, share in a time of prayer.

Community Cakes

Supplies

  • 1 Heart-Shaped Cake Pan
  • 1 Box of Cake Mix
  • 1 Can of Frosting
  • Sprinkles
  • (1) 4x6 card
  • Crayons or Markers

Instructions

  • While adults prepare the cake mix and bake the cake, have children decorate the card. Include a scripture passage on the card.
  • Once the cake is cooled, frost the cake and have children decorate it with sprinkles.
  • Along with the children who helped, deliver the cake and card to a shut-in from your church.
  • Pray for the recipient of the cake before you leave.

Coffee & Friends

Supplies

  • 1–5 Friends
  • Coffee Shop
  • Money
  • A Heart for Conversation

Instructions

  • Invite a friend(s) to join you at the coffee shop. Purchase coffee. Spend time talking.

Conversation Prompts:

  • Who is your biggest role model?
  • What’s your best memory from childhood?
  • Where do you want to be in 10 years?
  • What’s your definition of success?
  • What’s your personal motto?
  • What single day would you choose to live over in your life?
  • What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Cookies That Care

Supplies

  • 2 Dozen Sugar Cookies
  • Sprinkles
  • Construction or Manila Paper
  • Crayons

Instructions

  • While adults are icing the cookies, have preschoolers draw and color pictures to deliver to first responders.
  • Adults include a Bible verse on each picture.
  • When the cookies are iced, help the preschoolers decorate the cookies with sprinkles.
  • Along with the children who helped, deliver the cookies and cards to a fire or police station.
  • Let the first responders know you care for them and are praying for them.

Welcoming International Students

Supplies

  • 2 Plates
  • 2 Place Settings of Silverware
  • 1 Bag of Rice
  • 1 Box of Tea bags
  • 2 Cups
  • 2 Glasses
  • 1 Small Electric Pot (to cook rice)
  • Blank Notecard
  • 1 Basket

Instructions

  • Collect these items and place them in a basket.
  • Add a note of welcome and the church phone number to call for a ride to the store or church.
  • Include the name and phone number of someone in your group who can be a friend to the international student.
