Five River Ministry Missions Projects for WMU Groups

by Brandi Jones on January 14, 2021 in Blog

This winter, consider participating in one of these five Texas Baptists River Ministry projects. All of the projects can be completed at home or in a group setting with social distancing.

Comfort from the Cold

The Texas Baptists River Ministry needs your help to supply families along the border with hats, blankets, and scarves for the winter months. Contact Gloria Tillman at gloria.tillman@txb.org for a list of needs and addresses.

Hygiene Kits

Assemble a simple hygiene kit with travel-size (3.4 ounces or less) shampoo, bar soap, a comb, toothbrush, and toothpaste inside of a quart-sized Ziploc bag.

Once your hygiene kits have been assembled, contact gloria.tillman@txb.org for a mailing address. The completed kits will be distributed to immigrants, refugees, medical clinics, prisons, orphanages, and more.

Care Boxes

Texas Baptist River Ministry missionaries have been working with food banks and local ministries to feed low-income families and ministers on both sides of the border, but the Coronavirus has resulted in a great need for food and pantry items.

When you donate $25, a River Ministry missionary will be able to fill a Care Box with food and pantry items to feed a family for a week.

Give online and forward your receipt to gloria.tillman@txb.org with a memo stating it is for Care Boxes. These funds will be sent directly to a River Ministry missionary to distribute supplies on both sides of the border.

Community Garden Starter Kits

A garden ministry opens doors to develop relationships and opportunities to evangelize alongside those in the community. This winter, your WMU group can help plant community gardens along the border by providing River Ministry missionaries with various seeds for spring planting.

Contact gloria.tillman@txb.org to receive a list of missionaries in need of community garden starter kits.

Tutor/Mentor/Doctor by Zoom

River Ministry missionaries need your skills to help students and pastors along the border via Zoom. There are students in need of assistance with their studies, free medical clinics in need of guidance, and pastors or lay leaders in need of mentors.

If you’re available to use your skills via Zoom, contact gloria.tillman@txb.org to be connected to a River Ministry missionary.

Please feel free to reach out to the WMU of Texas team with any questions. You may reach us at (214) 828-5150 or by email at wmutx@txb.org
