Devotional: In Uncertain Times, What Do I Do?

by Earl Ann Bumpus on August 23, 2020 in Blog

While reading my Bible this week, I camped in Psalms 61-63. With so much uncertainty around us, I could identify with David and how he was feeling when he said, Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer” in Psalm 61:1.

We have so much to pray about, but first, let us thank God for all He has done.

He loves us, provides for us, and guides us. He is always here with us, but do we regularly acknowledge that? How many times have we plowed ahead without thanking God and asking Him to lead? Maybe that’s why our world is in the shape it is in right now?

With the hurricanes along the coast, lightning storms, thunderstorms, and tornadoes, many people fear this time of the year. We look for protection in shelters, but the storms in life are not always caused by weather situations. Sometimes, the storms are caused by what’s happening inside of us.

Negative thoughts, circumstances, concerns, fears, and frustrations…these are the storms of our inner self. The storms no one else knows about. But God knows! So, what do we do?

“Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8)Instead of trying to fix things ourselves, let us go to the Lord in prayer first - then wait for Him to direct us.

“My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will never be shaken” (Psalm 62:1-2)
