Devotional: Welcome Autumn

by Earl Ann Bumpus on November 1, 2020 in Blog

I was outside early this morning to read my Bible and let our dog, Lilly, out when it struck me that I could feel autumn in the air.

The beginning of a new season usually finds me thinking that this is my favorite season.  Do you ever do that?

Ecclesiastes 3 considers the different life seasons we experience.  But this morning as I focused on verse 11a, “He has made everything beautiful in its time,” I expressed gratitude for:

  • the cooler mornings and evenings

  • the light rains we’ve had in North Central Texas

  • the fall colors of  nature: golds, oranges, browns, reds, and darker greens

  • and the melodic coo of doves

In the midst of all the chaos in the world, I would encourage you to take a few minutes to experience the solitude of the moment. Breathe in the fresh outside air. Take a look at the flowers blooming again and listen for the birds.

Most importantly, take time to listen to the Lord. I challenge you, if you don’t already, begin making a list of what you are thankful for. God has given us many things to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell with the arrival of a new season. Be quick to thank Him for all the beauty He has made for us to enjoy and share that with others.
