Devotional: Deep in the Heart of Texas

by Earl Ann Bumpus on September 13, 2020 in Blog

Last Sunday, my husband Mark and I were invited by Pastor Drew Bales, to speak at First Baptist Church of Elroy, to kick off their Texas Missions emphasis. We had a great time of worship with this warm-hearted church family! I introduced the Mary Hill Davis Week of Prayer and Offering, and Mark preached the sermon, Missions in the Heart of Texas. After the service, Shelli Cantwell, the worship leader, handed me a paper with new words to Deep in the Heart of Texas

God’s Love is right
It’s big and bright
(4 claps) Deep in the heart of Texas

Reminds me of
The ones HE loves
(4 claps) Deep in the heart of Texas

It is great to be a part of something bigger than ourselves…our family, our church family, and the Texas Baptist family! Texas is a BIG state, but our God is BIGGER and there is room for everyone in His family. It is exciting and challenging to be a part of God’s plan for Texas. We can join together to pray, give, and get involved in reaching our state for Christ. Your gifts help fund almost 90 ministries that otherwise might not be possible.

Your prayers reach across our state to impact the mission we share. You can live out the theme “I Am Texas Missions!” through your prayers, gifts, and by working together following  Christ’s command to, “... go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20

Please use the week-long prayer guide and the month-long September prayer guide as you pray daily. Also, select one or two of the funding allocations to pray for each day. These are found as a free download from www.iamtexasmissions.com Finally, set your phone’s alarm at 10 a.m. each day and join others around the state as together, we pray for Texas missions.
